Short-listed companies for 2010 Green awards announced

The finalists have been announced for the 2010 Green Awards, with a shortlist consisting of a diverse range of companies and organisations from across Irish society.

Construct Ireland has been shortlisted for two awards at the event, which will be held at the Burlington Hotel on 11 March. The magazine is a finalist for the green communications award along with Belvedere House Gardens and Park, Dell Exposure Media Services, Greenme.ie  and Weee Ireland. Construct Ireland editor Jeff Colley is a finalist for the green leader award along with Citi head of facilities Paul Boylan, Greenbusiness.ie project director Kara Flannery, Siemens CEO Dr Werner Kruckow, Vintners Federation director Sean Redmond and Vodafone Ireland CEO Charles Butterworth.

The awards feature two categories specific to construction and architecture - the green building and green residential building awards. Finalists for the green building award include BDP's Farmhand development, Dublin; Bucholz McEvoy's Westmeath County buildings & library; Java Republic'S Roastery coffee house; MCO Projects' St Anne's Convent, Booterstown; Scott Tallon Walker's St Patrick's Place, Cork; and Solearth's Dechen Lying, Wicklow.

The green residential building finalists include Melted Snow Architects' 43 Clarence Mangan Road, Dublin 8; Monti's A1 rated Watermint apartments, Cabinteely; O'Mahony Pike's Waterfall housing, Co Cork, Sean Harrington Architects' York Street Housing; and Traynor O'Toole's 4 Willmount, Cork - the subject of a profile in the forthcoming March edition of Construct Ireland.

Green construction is well represented in the green entrepreneur category, with energy upgrade specialists Durkan Eco Fix, rainwater harvesting company Rainvault, heat recovery ventilation company MTD Solutions and recycled tyre product manufacturer, Crumb Rubber Ireland - who are also shortlisted for the green product award, along with eco friendly cement manufacturer Ecocem , waterless urinal supplier BR Waterless  and landscape product manufacturer Enrich Environmental.

Airtricity, Ocean Energy, RES Uk and Ireland Rural Generation have been shortlisted for the green energy award, while Roscommon, South Tipperary and Wicklow County Councils have been short-listed for the green county council award along with Wexford County Council's environment department.
