Brady, who has qualifications in building services engineering and energy management, felt the progression to becoming a qualified passive house consultant was a natural route to take. “It encompasses everything I had studied and what I was passionate about – conditioning buildings in an efficient and sustainable way,” he said.

Its passive house service includes PHPP assessments, U-value calculations, thermal bridge detailing and condensation risk analysis.

The company, based in Newport, was formed in 2008 with the aim of helping architects, engineers and self-builders to achieve compliance with the rapidly changing Part L of the building regulations.

“Since then the company has gone from strength to strength, adding a wide range of services to include thermal imaging surveys and airtightness testing, and will add thermal modelling to its range of services in early 2018,” Brady told Passive House Plus.

Cathal attributes the company’s continued growth to its focus on the client’s individual needs. “With a large percentage of our work coming from one-off builds, where no two houses are the same, each client requires their own individual solution. And to be able to offer bespoke solutions, you have to be able offer a complete range of services, and that is why BEC is now a one stop shop for all building energy efficiency needs,” he said.
