National construction conference points way forward for industry
Heat Merchants and HomeBond co-hosted the National Construction Industry Conference last November in Croke Park’s Conference Centre to review key issues and deliver insights to over 210 architects, engineers, planners and developers. The topics centred around key issues which will influence the future of the construction industry in Ireland, including liability, health & safety plus the implications of recent and upcoming additions to various sections of the building regulations.
According to Heat Merchants Group managing director Alan Hogan: ‘The conference delivered insights which affect the construction sector now and more importantly will shape the future of the industry. The risks associated with legionella in public buildings, particularly in the vulnerable healthcare sector proved to be quite a shocking start to the morning, particularly as the potential liability implications for engineers, specifiers and installers were outlined by expert in the field, David Harper.
Philip Lee spoke about the regulatory environment surrounding energy in buildings and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s recent decision to require the passive house standard or equivalent for all new buildings in their new development plan, which comes into force in March.
Meanwhile, Edel Hartog of McCann Fitzgerald discussed the pending legislation governing broadband which states that newly constructed and renovated buildings post-2016 must be broadband-ready and communications access points in buildings and associated in-building infrastructure must be accessible to all communications networks operators – good news for homeowners as they will now have more flexibility to choose their broadband service provider in any new buildings. This was followed by a presentation from Hubert Fitzpatrick, director of housing, planning and development with the Construction Industry Federation on pending and proposed legislation which will affect the construction sector.
The event also featured a strong line-up of exhibitors featuring some of the latest technology and expertise from leading international brands including Bosch Commercial, Panasonic, Baxi, Kingspan and Bord Gáis Energy.
