The project won the award for Residential Project of the Year at this year’s Irish Construction Industry Awards, which were held in Dublin in early June.

It also picked up the award for Single House Build/Design of the Year at the Irish Building & Design Awards in April.

The upgrade featured external insulation to the original brickwork walls, a new externally insulated blockwork extension, a partially reconstructed roof heavily insulated with mineral wool insulation, and boasted airtightness of 0.99 air changes per hour.

“We were delighted to win these awards,” Pat Doran told Passive House Plus. “It’s a testament to our fabric-first approach to building and to the fact that passive house and Enerphit are being increasingly recognised by the industry for delivering comfortable, healthy, ultra low buildings.”

The project was previously profiled in issue 12 of Passive House Plus, and at the time Paul Doran, project manager with Pat Doran Construction, told Passive House Plus that it was the most complicated project he had ever worked on. “Enerphit is special forces training for passive house builders, and this one was particularly tough,” he said.

Paul Doran also told Passive House Plus that the company is now on site with the construction of three certified passive house units as part of a 10-house development in Dún Laoghaire.
